ABOUT THE ARTIST

I’m Michelle, an artist, illustrator and would-be potter living in a small village in East Devon, not far from the coast.
My work is deeply inspired by the natural world around me — the birds in the hedgerows, wildflowers along quiet lanes, changing seasons and the small details that are so often overlooked. Much of my inspiration begins during slow countryside walks with a sketchbook and camera close to hand.
Creativity has always been part of my life. From a young age I loved drawing and making, although it wasn’t until studying Textile Design at university that I truly began to understand how powerful creative expression could be. I later went on to run a textile printing business with my eldest daughter for eight years, which deepened my love of pattern, colour and handcrafted design.

Today my work has become more personal and intuitive. Each design begins as a hand-drawn illustration, created using pen, ink and watercolour before being transformed into prints, textiles and homeware pieces.
I work from my home studio, surrounded by sketchbooks, paper, brushes and gathered inspirations from nature. I’m constantly observing and collecting ideas — a bird spotted on a morning walk, seed heads moving in the wind, or the changing colours of the countryside throughout the year.
My designs are not intended to be perfect replicas of nature, but personal impressions and quiet moments translated into art. Through my work I hope to bring a sense of warmth, calm and connection to everyday life.
