Crabs are a common sight along the UK’s coasts, with several species inhabiting its rocky shores, estuaries, and sandy beaches.  The UK’s waters also host spider crabs, velvet swimming crabs, and hermit crabs, each adapted to different habitats. Crabs play an important role in coastal ecosystems, both as predators of small invertebrates and as prey for birds, fish, and seals. However, some species, like the green shore crab, are also considered invasive in other parts of the world, having been transported by ships from UK waters.
