New Year, New Designs in the Making

New Year, New Designs in the Making

There’s something quietly magical about the start of a new year. The days are still slow and wintry, but the light is changing, ideas are stirring, and the sketchbooks are starting to fill again.

Here at MichelleWittsDesigns, January is a time for gentle reflection and fresh beginnings. After the busyness of the festive season, I love returning to my desk with a clear head, a warm cup of tea, and the space to play, explore, and create.

Behind the scenes in the studio

Over the past few weeks, I’ve been immersed in new drawings and sketches — working with watercolour and ink, letting shapes grow organically, and taking inspiration from the flora and fauna of South West England. Hedgerows, seed heads, birds and woodland details keep finding their way onto the page, often in unexpected ways.

Designing with intention

As always, sustainability remains at the heart of everything I make. From using responsibly sourced, carbon-captured paper to working with ethical printers that support the Woodland Trust, each new design is created with care for both home and environment.

These values continue to shape the direction of my work this year — thoughtful, lasting pieces for modern country homes that celebrate nature rather than rush past it.

Over the coming months, I’ll be refining these early ideas into finished designs, with some new pieces launching soon.

Looking forward a creative, calm, and nature-filled year ahead.

Michelle
